TingTong is a doorbell. You tap a friend's name and their phone rings. That is the whole product, and it needs very little about you to work.

This page says what is stored, why, and what happens to it. It is written to be read rather than agreed to.

What TingTong stores

• An account identifier. Signing in with Apple gives TingTong an identifier for your account. It is how your friends and settings are found when you sign in again.
• Your name. Either the name Apple provides at sign-in or the one you type. Friends see your first name.
• Your email address, only if you share it. Apple lets you hide it. If you do, TingTong never sees it.
• A notification token. An identifier from Apple that lets a ring reach your phone. It changes when you reinstall.
• Your friend code, and who you are connected to. A six-character code you can share, and a record of each accepted connection.
• Your quiet hours. A start time, an end time and your timezone, if you set them.
• Recent rings. Who rang you and when. These are deleted after a day.
• Nicknames. The names you give your friends, stored privately under your own account. Nobody else can read them, including the person renamed.
• Feedback you send. Your message and your account identifier, so a reply is possible.

What TingTong does not store

• No phone number.
• No address book or contacts.
• No location, ever.
• No photographs, microphone or camera access.
• No analytics, tracking or advertising identifiers.
• No third-party trackers of any kind.
• No message content, because there are no messages. A ring carries one piece of information: someone you know is at your door.

Who can see what

Your friends see your first name, the bell you chose, and whether your bell is currently off. That is all.

Nobody else using TingTong can see your friends, your nicknames, your quiet hours or who has rung you. This is enforced by the database itself, not only by the app.

TingTong is not sold, shared or licensed to anyone. There are no advertisers and no data partners.

Where it is kept

TingTong uses Google Firebase to store this information and Apple's notification service to deliver rings. Data is held on Firebase servers in Mumbai, India. Both companies act as processors: they hold the data so the app can work, and do not use it for their own purposes.

Apple's notification service receives the text of a ring in order to deliver it. That text is a first name and the words "is at your door".

How long it is kept

Rings are deleted after a day. Everything else is kept while your account exists.

Deleting your account

My door has a Delete account option. It removes your profile, your code, your friendships and your nicknames. It cannot be undone, and nothing is retained afterwards.

Children

TingTong is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top changes with it.
